Sea Eagle has been highly popular in the inflatable kayak market for a lengthy time. Their Explorer kayaks and Sport kayaks are popular all over the world. Just this season (2010) they came out with a brand new sleeker inflatable kayak that will likely appeal to a wide variety of paddling enthusiasts.
The Sea Eagle FastTrack is a faster and lighter weight inflatable kayak that can handle most kinds of water including lakes, ocean and river kayaking (up to class III). Below I will compare it to Sea Eagle's Explorer kayaks as well as explain the professionals and cons with this new popular model.
My Inflatable Kayak Story
I have personally been a lover of Sea Eagle inflatable boats from the time I first began trying to find an inflatable kayak a few years ago. I've kayaked for nearly all of my life and before had always used a firm hard-shell kayak. I chose to purchase an inflatable kayak for the sheer ease of them. I needed a kayak that I could easily store away in a wardrobe, transport in the trunk of my car in addition to on an airplane and manage to carry by myself.
After a lot of research I ended up purchasing the Sea Eagle 380X Explorer Kayak. I have been absolutely satisfied and satisfied with it and have tried it for all, many hours of paddling fun... including for a few travel as well.
What Makes the FastTrack so Great>
I enjoy my Explorer kayak but there are two things about it that I wished were different. For a very important factor I wish it had been lighter. It weighs 47 lbs. which isn't harmful to a conjunction kayak nonetheless Sea Eagle Inflatable Longboard package it would be far easier for travel if it were lighter.
The next thing I wish were different is the speed. Again it isn't bad but it's known for not being the fastest kayak in the water.
Knowing both of these downsides of my own inflatable kayak I couldn't help but love the new Sea Eagle FastTrack. With this inflatable kayak they have taken all the positive features of the Explorer kayaks and added:
a new design for better speed and tracking
in addition to a new super rugged but lighter weight material
The Sea Eagle FastTrack set alongside the Sea Eagle Explorer Kayaks
The FastTrack is very much like the Sea Eagle 380X as far as size is concerned. It's identical in total and about an inch smaller in width. It even offers the same weight capacity (750 lbs.).
Nevertheless the major plus with the FastTrack is the truth that it weighs twelve pounds less compared to the 380X. That's quite an impact and can make transporting the kayak to and from the water along with much easier for airplane travel.
The truth that this tandem inflatable kayak weighs so little rocks! and it also means when an individual wished to use the kayak solo they'd have not a problem carrying it themselves.
So far as design is worried you are able to tell by simply considering the FastTrack so it has a slightly different shape compared to Explorer kayaks. This new shape makes for better speeds for three reasons:
It features a drop stitch outside keel at the bow which supplies buoyancy and helps to stop the natural yaw of an inflatable kayak.
There's a removable rear skeg that keeps the kayak tracking straight.
It includes a separate very rigid drop stitch floor which increases the overall rigidity of the kayak and creates side chines beneath the pontoons which enhances the entire paddling performance.
Sea Eagle actually states that a floor of the newest FastTrack is really rigid so it may even be properly used as a stand-up paddle board. That's quite impressive.
